Those pajamas double as his winter coat, a hand-me-down from his predecessors. I also unfurl my summer sleeping bag for him. On really cold nights (below 25), i toss a red blanket down and then another on top of him. Having him in the tent raises the temperature a few degrees. Also, having a low tent helps contain the heat. The tradeoff is that i have to crawl into the tent and cannot stand up.
I have no idea why i never thought of laying out his two beds in the tent. Now it is routine. I am amazed at how i am constantly finding ways to improve the logistics of these trips, even after almost 500 days on the road on my ten trips.
