Day 11, As It Is Happening, Craters of the Moon, idaho., 11 am
Last year, i pulled into this camp late at night in the mist of blizzard-like conditions. The camp was closed. I came back two days later and scouted out the camp sites and vowed to return. It is sublime in itself, but also because of the forces of nature it represents. My hope was to get camp site 25, by far the best site. when i pulled in a few hours ago, on an absolutely exquisite day, i could see from the road that the small camp was peppered with RVs, but no tenters. I cautiously drove the labyrinth of the camp road and to my delight discovered 25 was open. Lucky me. I had such a hard time putting up the tent due to the wind, i decided to stay for two days, maybe more. I just hope Elmer does show up later.
